Fresenius Medical Care is the world’s largest provider of dialysis products and services. Fresenius Medical Care started operations in Hungary in 1993. At the end of 2014, 23 Fresenius Medical Care dialysis centers were operating across the country. The number of patients in Hungary is close to 2,500.
In 2011, the need to implement a unified BI and business planning system arose. The main reason was the need to implement more detailed cost planning and tracking due to tight budgets. The success of the project led to the involvement of several business units after the implementation.
Our company first implemented MicroStrategy and Jedox in a pilot project where MicroStrategy was the BI framework and Jedox was the design system framework. After the successful pilot, we built a data marketplace based on MySQL that included financial, sales, and management data at the fact/plan level. The business planning system implemented in Jedox used this factual data as the basis for planning and loaded the generated plan figures back into the relational data marketplace.
The cohesive central data marketplace enabled the creation of multiple executive dashboards for senior and middle management, as well as various operational reports for middle managers and medical directors. The BI system was integrated into management meetings, where dashboards of all key clinical operational indicators were instantly available on a projector. Depending on the value of the indicators displayed on the dashboards, other operational reports were projected to examine more detailed data.
In the second phase, the technical data (waterworks logbook, real estate data, laboratory water quality analysis data) were processed using the data entry capabilities of the Jedox Excel client. In contrast to the previous data processing in Excel, the data processed by Jedox was immediately published in the central data market, allowing time series analyses.
In the third phase, a detailed job scheduling system was developed. Since dialysis requires many personnel, accurate planning of personnel and financial data is very important. The planning was implemented in Jedox. The calculated salary data was directly linked to the financial plan developed in the first phase. A big advantage is that after the first HR plan, it is possible to change/refine the salary data very quickly and accurately. The HR fact data is loaded from the Nexon system into the central data marketplace, so that a continuous plan/act comparison is also available via dashboards and more detailed operational reports.
