Introducing MicroStrategy v10 License keys

MicroStrategy 10.4 introduces a single, permanent „MicroStrategy v10 license” key effectively replacing „versioned-license keys”. Customers can now use this permanent key to install 10.4 or any later release on version 10.

 

Unless a customer adds new users/CPUs or changes their configuration, they no longer need to reach out to MicroStrategy to get a new key. This enables customers to upgrade to the latest version immediately. Additionally, this feature makes the 10.4 (and later) install/upgrade easier by automatically pre-populating the license key.

 

Customers no longer are required to get a new license key when upgrading to the latest version of the software. They also do not need to manage multiple, different keys for each version of the software or open a tech support case for a key request. A single version-less license key eliminates overhead and reduces time delays, improving customer experience for software upgrades.

What is the experience for new customers?

MicroStrategy will issue a ‘MicroStrategy v10 License key’ to new customers that can be used to install MicroStrategy 10.4 and later versions.

 

As an existing customer, do I need to request new keys?

  • If your organization has MicroStrategy 10.3: Customers can use their 10.3 license keys to install MicroStrategy 10.4 and later versions. Essentially, the 10.3 license key will be the „MicroStrategy v10 license key”.
  • If your organization has MicroStrategy 10.2 or earlier: Customers on earlier versions will need to request a new „MicroStrategy v10” license key’ which they can then use to install MicroStrategy v10.4 and later versions.

 

Is there any change in the product installation experience?
There is no change to the installation experience. As before, customers would enter their license key to install the software. In fact, if your key is an ‘MicroStrategy v10 key’, it will be pre-populated by the installer routine.

 

What should I do if I can’t locate my license key? Can I still contact MicroStrategy?
Yes, the process to request a license key is still in place. If you require a new key or have misplaced your existing key, you can reach out to MicroStrategy and get a key from the download site or open a Tech Support case.

 

When do I need to contact MicroStrategy for a new license key?
Only if there is a configuration change because new users or CPUs are added. Otherwise, simply download and upgrade to the latest version as soon as it is released.
